The Global Indian Foundation, in partnership with community, individual and corporate donors, offers a variety of scholarships to students in the GIF Schools.
1. Full Tuition Scholarships (Singapore Prepaid)
Students may apply for these scholarships in middle and high school. They may receive a scholarship as long as they meet criteria. Singapore Prepaid Tuition Scholarship Program provides incentive to needy students in grades 7-11. A donor’s gift is matched, one to one, by the Singapore Prepaid Scholarship Foundation.
Three types of tuition scholarships are available through Singapore Prepaid:
- 2 year High school scholarship (Grade 9 and 10)
- 2 year Junior College scholarship (Grade 11 & 12) or
- 4-year university scholarship (by NUS & NTU). Each scholarship recipient is selected through a competitive application process by the universities.
The Foundation’s Scholarship and Mentoring Programs work hand-in-hand to ensure that each recipient reaches the goal of a college education. The Global Indian Foundation administers the Take Stock in Children scholarship/mentoring program that offers a number of Singapore Prepaid Tuition scholarships every year. These scholarship students will be entered into the scholarship program and matched with a mentor. Students are tracked by Foundation staff throughout their school career to ensure they follow the scholarship guidelines of staying in school and maintaining good grades.
2. Cash Scholarships for Graduating Students
Global Indian Foundation is able to offer a number of cash scholarships to graduating students thanks to the generosity of local individual donors as well as social and civic groups. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $3,000 and will help students with future's educational expenses. Students are urged to log on to the GIF website and apply on-line. Scholarships for vocational education give high school graduates the option to pursue post secondary education: Graduates trained at vocational/technical schools are in high demand in today’s job market:
A college degree no longer is the only guarantee of a securing a lucrative job:
4. GIF Employee Skills Development Scholarships
The Global Indian Foundation is able to offer skills development scholarships to GIF employees who are finishing a degree in education, or are taking coursework required in order to obtain a teaching certificate. GIF collaborates with corporate donors and community personnel in order to facilitate this unique scholarship opportunity for future teachers.
Employees who meet certain criteria may apply for these scholarship opportunities annually. If awarded a scholarship, an employee must agree to teach for the GIF schools for at least two years. GIF has raised more than $10,000 in the past two years to support this scholarship program. One of the goals of this special scholarship project is to recruit future teachers from among the current rank of employees in order to help fill teaching positions. As the student population in South East Asia increases, so does the need for additional teachers.
